Energy is Environment
Chair / Presidente: Roberto Cornetta (IT)
Energy choices have long exerted a profound influence on environmental equilibrium. Today, however, the imperative to safeguard the environment demands a substantial commitment—not only to rethinking our models of production and consumption, but, more importantly, to re-evaluating the value systems that enable the reconciliation of diverse and often competing interests. The complexity of these challenges necessitates the capacity to engage across disciplinary boundaries, overcoming cultural and intellectual barriers that have become increasingly obsolete. In the coming decades, nations will be required to address a growing number of interrelated issues concerning both energy and the environment, arising at different times and within diverse socio-political contexts.Accordingly, the pursuit of a genuinely sustainable model of global development—one that reconciles the need for reliable energy provision with the imperative to preserve natural resources and uphold ecological integrity—will depend critically on interdisciplinary and transnational expertise. We maintain that only through an integrated and holistic approach to energy and environmental challenges can we effectively navigate the complex decisions ahead, which increasingly encompass not only technological dimensions, but also broader social and economic dynamics.
