Step-by-step process to take part in SUM 2026 as a speaker.
Current submission deadline (for both papers and workshops): 16 February 2026.
Step 1.
Choose your topic &
presentation format
Explore the full range of topics included in the 2026 Call for Papers and find the best match for your contribution.
Choose your preferred presentation format:
Official language: English
In addition, the Symposium may also include an Italian session; Italian authors may freely submit abstracts for inclusion in both languages.
Step 2.
Prepare your contribution
Download and use our workshop template in which you must include:
Workshop Title
Organiser/s (name, surname, affiliation, email address)
Proposed length (1 or 2 sessions)
Short description / Scope of the Workshop
List of speakers and introductory presentations (all speakers must be regularly registered for the conference)
Maximum number of participants allowed (if any)
Special equipment needed (if any)
Step 3.
Submit your contribution
Fill in the submission form and upload your paper by the deadline: 16 February 2026.
Send your workshop proposal by email at info@sumsymposium.it by the deadline: 16 February 2026.
Step 4.
Evaluation & Notification of Acceptance / Rejection
Contributions will be evaluated by an international multidisciplinary panel of experts. The final format (oral/poster) will be decided based on: author request, topic relevance, paper type (case study, preliminary results, highly specific), number of submissions per topic.
Notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent by 2 March 2026.
Speakers not receiving the notification should contact the Organising Secretariat at info@sumsymposium.it
Please note that acceptance of your contribution does not automatically register you in the conference.
Step 5.
Registration
If accepted, the author who will present the paper at the Symposium (presenting author) must register and pay the entrance fee within 10 days of the acceptance notification, by completing the registration form.
Your exact registration deadline, stated in the acceptance notification, refers to the date by which payment must be received, not just when the form is submitted. Please note that registration will only be deemed valid upon payment receipt.
During the registration process, please provide:
A short biography (max. 1000 characters, NO full CV) of the presenting author
A photo of the presenting author
A signed copy of the copyright assignment form
Step 6.
Inclusion in the Programme & Notification of Session
The preliminary programme will be drafted approximately in April and will include only contributions of authors regularly registered.
Once the preliminary programme is drafted, all speakers will receive the notification with their presentation schedule and session details.
Step 7.
Paper Publication
All papers presented at the conference will be published in a digital set of Symposium Proceedings. Additionally, a considerable number of leading papers will be selected for possible publication in special thematic issues on our partner journal, Detritus, the IWWG and IRACE journal indexed on Scopus and Web of Science.
Step 8.
