9° SIMPOSIO MULTIDISCIPLINARE SULL'ECONOMIA CIRCOLARE E L'URBAN MINING
20-22 MAGGIO 2026 / PROCIDA, Napoli

Sedi del Simposio

For SUM Symposium, we chose a non-conventional destination, but capable of encouraging genuine reflection: Procida, Italy — a gem in the Bay of Naples and Italy’s Capital of Culture in 2022.
The island reveals its charm in quiet rhythms and subtle beauty, shaped by authentic Mediterranean tradition. Among its pastel alleys and the salty air, Procida offers an atmosphere where focus and reflection come naturally. This intimate, reflective setting became the natural foundation for a scientific forum with a global and multidisciplinary scope.
Just as our research is dedicated to identifying value in resources, Procida rewards attention to detail and a slower, more attentive rhythm, providing a fitting context in which the complex processes of the Circular Economy and Urban Mining can be discussed with clarity and scientific rigour.

Cenobio di Santa Margherita - Opening Session

The Opening Session of SUM 2026 will be held, for the first time, within the evocative setting of the Cenobio di Santa Margherita. The now deconsecrated church retains its historical and spiritual charm while serving as a unique cultural venue, offering a scene of extraordinary beauty with breathtaking views over the entire island.
Address: Salita Castello, 80079 Procida, Italy
The building is easily accessible on foot with a scenic walk of approximately 5 minutes from Piazza dei Martiri. To ensure maximum accessibility for all participants, the organisers will provide a free shuttle service departing from Piazza dei Martiri (view on Google Maps).

Palazzo D'Avalos - Main venue

A historic space supporting contemporary research

The main venue of SUM 2026 will be Palazzo D’Avalos — a venue of palpable, distinct character.
History shaped the building, giving it a layered allure. Born as a royal residence in the 16th century, later a Bourbon fortress and then a prison, it has now become a place for culture, art, and science. The palace bears the marks of each transformation in its stone, weathered walls, and exposed textures, where past and present coexist to create a distinctive setting for focused discussion and exchange.

Sessions A-B-C-D will take place at Palazzo D'Avalos, located in the heart of the historic centre, known as Terra Murata, at the highest point of the island. Its panoramic location offers breathtaking views of the sea and the nearby island of Ischia.
Address: Piazza delle Armi, 80079 Procida, Italy
The palace is easily accessible on foot with a scenic walk of approximately 10 minutes from Piazza dei Martiri. To ensure maximum accessibility for all participants, the organisers will provide a free shuttle service departing from Piazza dei Martiri (view on Google Maps).

Museo Civico - Italian Session "E"

Italian Session "E" will take place at the Museo Civico, inside the Palazzo della Cultura. The building is located in the Terra Murata area, just a 2-minute walk from Palazzo d’Avalos, and a 10-minute walk from Piazza dei Martiri.
Address: Via San Michele, 1, 80079 Procida
To ensure maximum accessibility for all participants, the organisers will provide a free shuttle service departing from Piazza dei Martiri to Palazzo D’Avalos.
